SnowTrex, Germany’s largest ski travel provider, has released an extensive ranking of the most family-friendly ski resorts in the Alps.

The data analysis examines 50 ski resorts based on their ski schools, the extent of beginner-friendly slopes, and prices for children’s ski passes.

The ideal time for a family ski vacation is between late February and March. Early spring usually comes with family-friendly advantages such as comparably lower expenses, short lines for lifts, and good weather conditions.

When choosing the right ski resort, various aspects are particularly important for parents, including the prices for children’s ski passes. The length of green and blue slopes, essential for beginners, is also relevant.

The availability of ski schools is another good indicator of family-friendliness, as parents may not necessarily want or be able to teach their children to ski or snowboard themselves.

The following ranking takes these factors into account and highlights the top 10 Alpine ski resorts that provide the best conditions for families.

For parents, the choice of the ski resort is not only about the extent of the slopes, and not every child needs a ski school during the ski holiday. The following destinations in the Alps stand out for their particularly attractive offerings for little winter sports enthusiasts.

Zermatt Matterhorn: The youngest ski for free

In the Swiss ski resort Zermatt, families with the Wolli Card can experience an unforgettable winter holiday. Children up to nine years old enjoy free holidays, while the six-day pass for older children costs £219.

The majestic backdrop of the Matterhorn mountain completes the experience. The distinctive mountain served as inspiration for the famous Toblerone chocolate logo.

Saas-Fee: “Family Destination” with diverse experiences

The Swiss ski resort Saas-Fee rightfully bears the label “Family Destination” from the Swiss Tourism Association. In addition to the slopes, attractions like Kians Adventure Land, the Foxtrail, and the fascinating Allalin Ice Grotto entice with exciting experiences for the whole family.

Vorarlberg in Austria: Children’s paradise with magic carpets

The Vorarlberg children’s areas delight with their own magic carpet. The conveyor belt requires less practice than using a chairlift. Little skiers can easily step onto the non-slip surface and effortlessly climb the mountain.

With 60 child-friendly kilometers of slopes and a six-day ski pass for children aged eight and above for £161, Vorarlberg is an ideal destination for families.

Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis: Diverse offerings for young ski fans

The Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis ski resort in Austrian Tyrol offers special activities for children both on and off the slopes. With attractions like Berta’s Children’s Land, a children’s snow meadow, and the Murmlipark, the winter holiday becomes an adventure. Children aged eight and above pay £179 for six days of skiing pleasure.

Garmisch-Partenkirchen (Zugspitze): Fun for the little ones in Kinderland

The Bavarian Garmisch-Partenkirchen scores with Ixi’s Children’s Land. Here, young skiers can explore an especially beginner-friendly slope alongside learning materials.

At the local mountain, snow-loving families can enjoy a Funslope with wave courses and tunnels. Nine ski schools and 19 kilometers of slopes round out the offering. The six-day ski pass for children and teenagers costs £140.
