Overnight the Ukrainian capital was hit with one the largest drone attacks since the war started in February 2022.

Kyiv was mainly targeted with a barrage of 89 drones, which is the seventh time the capital has been targeted by Russia this month.

Russia launched 89 Shahed type drones and one KH-59 missile, and in Kherson nine attack drones were shot down and four were downed in the Mykolaiv Oblast authorities confirmed.

The drone attack lasted for seven hours and they were launched in waves from all directions, but anti-aircraft missiles, electronic warfare and tactical aviation kicked into play and downed all drones.

On Wednesday military officials said this was a “massive” attack, but not one drone met its intended target as they were all shot down by air defences.

Officials in Kyiv said, “not a single drone reached its target,” however falling debris from the drones damaged 13 houses.

The regional military head Ruslan Kravchenko confirmed, “The majority of the UAV [unmanned aerial vehicle] debris fell outside of the settlements.”

Kravchenko added, “The air defense operated in the region. All enemy targets were shot down. The strikes against housing and critical infrastructure facilities were prevented.

“No casualties among the population were reported. As of 9:30 a.m., we already have information about 13 private houses damaged in four districts of Kyiv region. The facades, roofs, and windows were broken by the debris. The State Emergency Service rescuers put out a fire in one of these houses.”
