Over the past three days opposition forces launched a surprise offensive and Russian and Syrian jets are bombing Aleppo for the first time in eight years.
Aleppo is Syria’s second largest city has been bombed by Russia and Syrian warplanes to attack rebels which is a major problem for the Syrian dictator Bashir al Assad.
Syria said the have made a “temporary troop withdrawal” after entering Aleppo as the military are preparing for a counter offensive against the rebel “terrorists.”
This week Hayat Tahrir al-Sham fighters launched an attack and have rapidly moved to Aleppo and have captured ground on the outskirts of the city where they seized a military base weapons and tanks from Syrian forces.
They now control around half the city and the attack is in response to increased air strikes by Russian and Syrian jets on areas inside Idlib, north-west of the country.
Fierce battles have taken place in Idlib and Aleppo over the past few days and dozens of Syrian soldiers have been killed.
A United Nations official said over the last three days there has been “relentless attacks” and 27 civilians eight children have been killed in Idlib, Sky News reports.
The Syrian military said they are engaged in a “major attack” and they are “reinforcing all locations along the various battlefronts.”
Turkey supports the rebels and gave them permission for the surprise attacks and they have demanded an end to the Syrian attacks on their base in Idlib.
“It is of utmost importance for Turkey that yet another and greater instability is avoided and civilians are not harmed,” said the Turkish foreign ministry.
