Vladimir Putin has praised the US President Donald Trump for wanting to re-establish cooperation with Russia.

Putin praised the US administration for their “pragmatism” and Trump has ended years bad foreign policy towards Russia.

The US met with a Russian delegation to discuss peace talks on 18 February and again today negotiations are taking place in Istanbul.

Speaking during a meeting with the Federal Security Service’s (FSB) Putin said the first contact between Washington and Moscow as “inspiring certain hopes” and said that some Western countries not happy with the US-Russian relations as they want to “create instability in the world.”

Putin said without providing any evidence, “These forces will try to disrupt or compromise the dialogue that has begun.

“We need to take it into account and use all the means of diplomacy and intelligence services to disrupt such attempts.”

Putin added, “it was precisely these problems that provoked both the Ukrainian and other regional crises at the time.

Citing two officials in in the region the Financial Times reported that Moscow demanded the US withdraw NATO forces from eastern Europe as a priority for “normalising relations,” during the talks in Riyadh on 18 February, the Kyiv Independent reported.

It was reported that the US rejected Moscow’s demand and there is still concerns over what concessions Trump could consider.

The US special envoy for Ukraine and Russia, Keith Kellogg who visited Kyiv this month said on behalf of President Trump said Europe will not be directly involved in the peace negotiations, however, their interests will be noted.
