Is Hyundai about to drop another EV? A newly filed trademark for the name “Insteroid,” suggests a more powerful version of the Inster EV, Hyundai’s affordable electric crossover SUV, could be on the way. Here’s what we know so far.

Is Hyundai launching a new Insteroid EV?

Hyundai recently filed a trademark ” Insteroid ” with the European Union Intellectual Property Office, sparking speculation that a new EV will be coming soon.

The filing, registered on November 7, 2025, is listed under “Automobiles; sports cars; vans; trucks; motor buses; electric vehicles; sports utility vehicles,” but it’s more than likely to be an EV.

Hyundai launched the Inster EV last year, the European version of the Casper Electric. Starting at around €24,000 ($26,000), the small electric crossover SUV is expected to play a significant role as Hyundai aims to double EV sales in Europe this year.

The mysterious Insteroid name hints at a larger, more powerful Inster EV — an Inster on steroids, if you will. At just 3,825 mm (150.6″) long, 1,610 mm (63.4″) wide, and 1,575 mm (62″) tall, with a wheelbase of 2,580 mm (101.5″), Hyundai’s INSTER EV is even smaller than the Kia EV3 and Volvo EX30.

It’s available in Europe with two battery sizes, 42 kWh and 49 kWh, good for WLTP driving ranges of up to 327 km (203 miles) and 370 km (230 miles), respectively.

The new Insteroid model could be a bigger sibling, packing a bigger battery for more range. Earlier this year, Hyundai launched the Inster EV Cross, an “outdoor-focused” variant, so that’s out.

The adventure-ready trim starts at £28,745 ($35,000) in the UK, with added rugged elements like side skirts and black cladding.

On the other hand, it could also be a production version of the RN24 prototype, Hyundai’s performance electric drift kart, or “Inster N” when it hits the market. According to TheKoreanCarBlog, sources say new design elements like a digital front fender display to give it a retro-futuristic look.
