Veteran energy management specialist Emporia Energy has launched its latest home EV charger called the “Pro,” complete with built-in load management and charging speeds 9x faster than a standard outlet.

Emporia Energy was founded in 2018 in Colorado with the goal of making home energy more efficient, affordable, and accessible to everyone by revolutionizing home energy management. Its growing lineup provides its customers with energy management solutions to help homeowners save money, reduce their carbon footprint, and take control of their energy consumption.

On the EV side, Emporia has found success with its “Classic” Level 2 EV charger, which was named the best home charging outlet of 2024 by several media outlets. As part of Emporia’s larger Home Energy Management Platform, the Classic charger works seamlessly and efficiently to optimize home energy usage without needing a panel upgrade.

As an encore, Emporia has announced a new Level 2 EV charger called the “Pro,” which now includes new load management technology.

Emporia launches Pro Level 2 EV charger that is 9x faster

Emporia officially launched its Pro EV charger today, which promises to deliver charger speeds that are up to 9x faster than a standard 100V plug. Emporia points out that many homeowners are reluctant to purchase an EV because a Level 2 charger installation sits as a roadblock, often because older homes don’t have the amperage to deliver the necessary speeds required for convenient home charging.

Emporia states that it has solved this issue with the Pro charger thanks to its PowerSmart Load Management technology, which monitors available power through Emporia’s Vue Home Energy Monitor installed directly in your electrical panel. The PowerSmart system uses real-time data from the Vue to dynamically adjust charging rates as other household appliances turn on and off throughout the day to ensure your EV charges at the maximum safe rate without ever exceeding the local electrical panel’s capacity. Emporia CEO Shawn McLaughlin elaborated:

EV adoption continues to accelerate, but the infrastructure challenges remain significant. For many years now, consumers have been shell-shocked by the surprise that they have to spend thousands of dollars upgrading their electrical panel to access high-speed Level 2 charging. The Pro’s intelligent energy management puts an end to this and is a game-changer for both convenience and cost savings.

The Emporia Pro Ev charger can deliver speeds up to 48 amps hardwired or 40 amps with a NEMA 14-0 plug and is compatible with all J1772-equipped EVs. Don’t worry; Emporia said a NACS adapter is coming soon for Tesla owners. The Emporia Pro can unlock maximum energy efficiency by enabling time-of-use functionality based on utility rate plans and even solar-only energy when paired with other smart home products like solar panels, smart appliances, or smart plugs.

The charger is UL-certified, Energystar-rated, and NEMA-4-rated. It comes with a 25-foot cable and wall-mounted cable management holder to keep your garage tidy. The Emporia Pro EV charger is available now for $599 and comes bundled with the Vue Home Energy Monitor mentioned above.
