There are concerns, of course, that playing such a short pre-season could have ramifications later in the season, but Chelsea seem to be effectively carrying their momentum from the Club World Cup, which they won less than four weeks ago. Milan were not present at the summer tournament, but have nonetheless enjoyed an effective offseason, with wins over Liverpool and Perth Glory in earlier friendlies balanced out by a loss to Arsenal and draw with Leeds.
