Andy Burnham

Propertymark has announced that Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester, will deliver the keynote address at its Manchester Regional Conference on 16 September 2025.

Burnham, who has held the mayoral role since 2017, is expected to discuss local housing initiatives, including the Good Landlord Charter – launched earlier this year to raise rental standards for both private and social tenants.

He will also speak about regional housing policy, including the management of a £300m housing investment fund and the development of a spatial framework for Greater Manchester.

The mayor’s session, titled ‘Your housing priorities for Greater Manchester’, is scheduled to take place from 12.15pm to 12.45pm.

The conference will focus on current housing challenges and the role property professionals can play in supporting local and national housing policies. Attendees will hear from a range of industry speakers on recent legislative developments and market trends.

Confirmed speakers include:

  • Christian Balshen, Director of Agency Partnerships at Rightmove

  • Alex Jeffrey, Partner at Bright Solicitors

  • James Munro, Head of the National Trading Standards Estate and Letting Agency Team

The event runs from 8.30am to 4.30pm and will cover key topics affecting Propertymark members, including:

  • The final stages of the Renters’ Rights Bill

  • The implementation of Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards requiring EPC C ratings in the private rented sector by 2030

  • Updates to the Decent Homes Standard to ensure housing is safe and sustainable

  • Ongoing engagement with the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government to streamline the home buying and selling process

Nathan Emerson, CEO at Propertymark, said: “We are delighted to welcome the mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, to Propertymark’s Manchester Regional Conference this year.

“Housing and the private rented sector in particular are key priorities for the mayor, so it will be a fantastic opportunity for members to understand more about the mayor’s Good Landlord Charter and how they can be part of the solution to driving up standards working with landlords, tenants and local authorities.”

You can book your place for the Manchester Regional Conference here.
