The Metropolitan Police “toxic” culture has been exposed by a BBC Panorama documentary which reveals coppers attacking prisoners making anti-Muslim comments and have been caught out for misogyny.
The Met Police and perhaps other forces will now be in crisis mode as the public opinion of police is at an all time low and many normal decent people have no faither nor trust the police.
During the footage gathered over a seven month undercover investigation Panorama has raised more questions over the standards of the police.
One officer PC Phil Neilson suggested that an immigrant who overstayed his visa should be shot in the head or deport him.
PC Neilson said whilst off duty, “Either put a bullet through his head or deport him. And the ones that shag women, rape women, you do the c*** and let them bleed out.”
Whilst off duty PC Neilson was at the pub and told the undercover reporter Rory Bibb that Somalians and Algerians are “scum” and the UK is being invaded by migrants.
He said, “I think any foreign person is the worst to deal with.
“I’ve seen too many Islamics [sic] committing crimes. Their way of life is not the correct way of life. You do find that the ones that are causing the most crime are Muslim.”
The Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said that the Metropolitan Police commissioner Sir Mark Rowley “needs to be a very robust in his response.”
Sir Mark issued an apology, but only because his force was caught out, he said, it is “reprehensible and completely unacceptable” behaviour.
The Met suspended nine officers, a detention officer who is a civilian member of staff within 48 hours of receiving the facts.
The corrupt Met officers are under investigation for gross misconduct by the Independent Office for Police Conduct, one constable is under a criminal investigation for perverting the course of justice, which is a serious crime.
The Met commissioner said there is “incontrovertible evidence of racism, misogyny, anti-Muslim sentiment or bragging about excessive use of force.”
Sir Mark wants this serious matter fast-tracked for disciplinary proceedings and they will most likely end up being dismissed.
The undercover reporter then spoke with PC Marton Borg who was bragging about stamping on a detainees leg, laughing then discussed illegally falsifying a witness statement.
PC Borg said that the Muslims “hate us” and said “Islam is a problem.”
Another incident was recorded showing a 17-year autistic teenager being restrained by up to eight coopers after he threw a soft pillow at them. He was pinned down on the floor for two hours which has been described as “disproportionate.”
The Metropolitan Police commissioner said he is “truly sorry” over the behaviour of those officers and he has vowed to have those who are responsible to be sacked.
Sir Mark told LBC that their behaviour was “ghastly” and “reprehensible,” the commissioner added, Clearly there’s racism in there, there’s misogyny, there’s clearly relishing in using excess force.”
The Met commissioner said, “Frankly some of the content from last night on its own, in my mind, would be enough to bring officers to fast-track misconduct hearings.”
Paula Dodds, chair of the Metropolitan Police Federation, said, “The federation deplores any discriminatory behaviour in the strongest possible terms – such behaviour has no place in policing or society.
“If officers are proven to be guilty of criminal offences or serious gross misconduct, then we do not want these individuals in the job.
“But all police officers – like all people – have the right to representation and due process, and not trial by media or documentary. Or indeed senior officers or politicians.”
Home secretary Shabana Mahmood said: “The disturbing scenes in this footage are sickening. I welcome the Independent Office for Police Conduct fully and urgently investigating all the issues raised in this report.
“It is right that the Metropolitan Police have condemned this, and we fully support the”
