Property industry charity LandAid is aiming to raise more than £600,000 to combat youth homelessness by encouraging property professionals to take part in a ‘SleepOut’ in March across seven UK locations.

The charity is hoping more than 1,000 members of the property sector will take part in the event scheduled for Thursday 2 March in Birmingham, Bristol, Cambridge, Glasgow, Leeds, London and Manchester. Those wishing to take part will also have the option of sleeping out at home.

The cost for registration is £30 per person, or £40 for a family or household to sleep out at home. The minimum fundraising target is £166, with proceeds going towards helping people aged between 16 and 25 facing homelessness. LandAid said the £166 target for each fundraiser represents the cost of a bed space for one month.

According to the charity, 122,000 young people approached their local council for housing support last year alone. Many were left unsupported and therefore “rely on the care that charities provide in local communities across the UK”.

A spokesperson for the charity said: “It’s a problem that LandAid are here to tackle. We bring the property industry together to support charities delivering life-changing services for young people who are or have been homeless, or who are at risk of homelessness in the future. Through a unique network of corporate partners, we invest funding and expertise where we can achieve lasting impact.”

Knight Frank is the headline sponsor of this year’s LandAid SleepOut, and details for registration can be found on the charity’s website.
