Solid-state battery developer QuantumScape is approaching the end of 2025 with all of its key goals achieved. The latest development is the installation of key equipment to enable higher-volume QSE-5 cell production – the foundation for QuantumScape’s scaled solid-state battery manufacturing.

I admittedly always love when a progress update from QuantumScape ($QS) comes across my computer screen. The San Jose-based solid-state cell developer is one of the most exciting to follow in a nascent segment that has the capability to transform the future of clean mobility.

In the new and exciting world of solid-state cell development, QuantumScape has steadily progressed, not over-promising but often over-delivering. This past summer, the company’s proprietary Cobra solid-state separator process was fully integrated into its baseline production processes, enabling the production of gigawatt-level solid-state cells.

The Cobra breakthrough laid the groundwork for higher-volume B1 sample production of QuantumScape’s QSE-5 solid-state lithium-metal cells, which will eventually lead to scaled output for the battery market, particularly BEV batteries.

Each year, QS lays out a set of key goals to accomplish over the course of 365, and to our knowledge, hasn’t missed yet. 2025 appears not different, as QuantumScape announced it hit another key goal, installing the necessary equipment for its “Eagle Line,” which will soon begin highly automated battery cell pilot production.

QuantumScape to inaugurate “Eagle” cell production line

As mentioned above, QuantumScape has completed the installation of key equipment for higher-volume QSE-5 cell production at its San Jose facility. That equipment will serve the company’s Eagle Line, described as “the foundation for future gigawatt-hour-scale production by QS’s technology licensing partners.”

With the completion of the Eagle Line, QuantumScape will offer a peek behind its production curtain and hold an inauguration event at its headquarters in February. Per QuantumScape, the pilot production line inauguration will welcome customer representatives, technology partners, and government officials who will tour the cell production line.

Please consider this my formal request for an invitation. Thank you.

Last but certainly not least, QuantumScape President and CEO, Dr. Siva Sivaram, spoke about the key goal of Eagle Line and what it means for future solid-state cell production:

Completing this annual goal and inaugurating the Eagle Line is a crucial step forward in our scale-up strategy. The Eagle Line features our groundbreaking Cobra separator process combined with highly automated battery cell production. It is intended, upon ramp-up, to satisfy customer demand for QSE-5 cells and support future technology demonstrations.

We will have to see where QuantumScape stands from a business perspective after we review its Q4 2025 financial report. Still, at the end of Q2, the company reported sufficient runway to continue solid-state cell development through 2029. We will do everything possible to attend the Eagle Line inauguration and report back here on Electrek.
