Military generals and European leader and the UK have been warning that Russia could attack within the next five years and we should all prepare for war.
Vladimir Putin issued a sharp response to this and said it is “hysteria” and said he would like “mutual cooperation” with Europe and Washington.
Speaking in Moscow, Putin said, “There’s a level of hysteria in [Western] Europe right now. I’ve said this many times: it’s nonsense. Complete nonsense.
“All this talk about some imaginary Russian threat to [Western] European countries.

“And it’s not accidental. It’s being pushed deliberately. The reality is that Russia, even in the toughest situations, has always tried – as long as there was even the smallest chance – to resolve disputes and conflicts through diplomacy.
“The responsibility for those chances being wasted lies entirely with those who convinced themselves they could deal with Russia through force.
“And even today, we support building fair, mutually beneficial cooperation with the United States and [Western] European countries, and creating a single, shared security system across the whole of Eurasia.”
This week the head of Britain’s armed forces, Air Chief Marshal Sir Richard Knighton, said, The situation is more dangerous than I have known during my career, and the price of peace is rising,” the British defence chief said.
“Our response needs to go beyond simply strengthening our armed forces. It needs a whole of nation response that builds our defence industrial capacity, grows the skills we need, harnesses the power of the institutions we will need in wartime and ensures and increases the resilience of society and the infrastructure that supports it.
“Sons and daughters. Colleagues. Veterans. …will all have a role to play.
“To build. To serve. And if necessary, to fight. And more families will know what sacrifice for our nation means.”
