The Hyundai IONIQ 6 N will go on sale in the US and Europe soon, but we are already getting a look at it in action.
The IONIQ 6 N is Hyundai’s first EV sports car
After launching the IONIQ 6 N in South Korea in October, Hyundai’s electric sports car made its North American debut at the LA Auto Show.
It’s arriving as Hyundai’s second “N” branded EV, following the IONIQ 5 N, and first electric sports car. The IONIQ 5 N has been widely praised as a “game-changer” for high-performance EVs, but Hyundai looks to build on its success.
Based on a dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) powertrain, the IONIQ 6 N delivers up to 641 horsepower (478 kW) and 568 lb-ft of torque, enabling it to sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.2 seconds.
That’s when N Grin Boost is engaged, one of the many features that make the IONIQ 6 N more than just your average performance car.
At the push of a button, N Grin Boost unlocks the vehicle’s full potential with a 10-second burst of power. With other fun features like e-Shift (virtual gear shift) and N Active Sound+, you feel like you’re in a traditional sports car, with fake engine noises and the jerk of shifting gears.
While the IONIQ 5 N had some of the same features, Hyundai refined it for the IONIQ 6 N with shorter gear ratios. It also improved the N Active Sound + system with new hardware and “meticulous acoustic tuning,” the company said.
A new video shot in South Korea (via @Sigi-World) gives us a sneak peek at the electric sports car in action. While the IONIQ 6 N races down a tunnel, you can hear the fake engine noises as it “changes gears.”
The driver said the gear shifting is “amazing.” As for the engine sounds? A Bugatti. Those in the US and Europe will have the chance to determine for themselves, with the IONIQ 6 N set to go on sale in early 2026.
At 194.3″ long, 76.4″ wide, and 58.9″ tall, with a wheelbase of 116.7″, the IONIQ 6 N is about the size of a Porsche Taycan. However, it’s expected to cost about half as much.
The highest-priced IONIQ 6 Limited trim starts at $51,100 in the US, so the range-topping N version is expected start at around $65,000 to $70,000.
For comparison, the 2026 Porsche Taycan starts at $105,800 in the US, with up to 402 hp and a 0 to 60 mph time of 4.5 seconds (also using launch control).
