With its official debut just days away, BYD revealed the first images of its new flagship electric SUV, the Great Tang.

BYD is preparing for its highly anticipated “Disruptive Technology” event on March 5, where it’s expected to showcase new flagship vehicles, battery tech, ultra-fast megawatt charging, smart cockpit software, and so much more.

One vehicle we know will make its debut is the Great Tang, the first D-segment flagship SUV under BYD’s Dynasty lineup.

Lu Tian, GM of BYD’s Dynasty online sales division, revealed the first images of the Great Tang on Monday, confirming it make its official debut on March 5 during the tech event.

Although BYD has yet to release any information about it, the Great Tang was published in China’s MIIT regulatory filing last month, revealing a few details about what to expect.

Measuring 5,263 mm in length, 1,999 mm in width, and 1,790 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,130, BYD’s flagship electric SUV is about the size of the Denza N9 and Li Auto L9, or slightly bigger than the BMW iX, Kia EV9, and Hyundai IONIQ 9.

Like the IONIQ 9 and EV9, the Great Tang will be available with room for seven passengers. Although range figures have yet to be released, it will be powered by a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery.

The flagship SUV will launch with single and dual-motor powertrains. The single-motor will be available with 300 kW (402 hp) or 370 kW (496 hp), while the dual-motor version will deliver a combined 585 kW (784 hp).

Tian also revealed the interior for the first time with a spacious 7-passenger setup with a 2+2+3 configuration. The “meticulously crafted” interior features three massive screens spanning the dash, plus another rear-seat entertainment system, a built-in refrigerator, and reclining captain’s chairs.

BYD will reveal prices closer to launch, but the Great Tang will likely start at above 400,000 yuan ($58,000) as a flagship model.

According to CarNewsChina, the Great Tang will be based on BYD’s Super e-platform, a 1000V high-voltage architecture designed to deliver up to 1,000 kW for ultra-fast charging.

While battery specs have yet to be announced, local media claim the RWD variant will have a CLTC range of up to 950 km (590 miles), while the AWD version is expected to have an 850 km (528 miles) range under CLTC conditions.

Check back on March 5 when the Great Tang makes its official debut for a full breakdown of specs, range, and prices.
