Meet the BYD Great Tang, a new flagship electric SUV
BYD revealed a slew of new models, its new Blade Battery 2.0 with “Flash Charging 2.0,” and more during its Disruptive Technology event on March 5.
Lu Tian, GM of BYD’s Dynasty online sales division, revealed the Great Tang SUV on Monday during its global debut.
Measuring 5,302 mm in length, 1,999 mm in width, and 1,800 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,130 mm, BYD’s flagship electric SUV is about the size of the Denza N9 and Li Auto L9, or slightly bigger than the BMW iX, Kia EV9, and Hyundai IONIQ 9.
The flagship SUV will launch with single and dual-motor powertrains. The single-motor will be available with 300 kW (402 hp) or 370 kW (496 hp), while the dual-motor version will deliver a combined 585 kW (784 hp).
Like the IONIQ 9 and EV9, the Great Tang will be available with room for seven passengers with a 2+2+3 configuration.
The “meticulously crafted” interior features three massive screens spanning the dash, plus another rear-seat entertainment system, a built-in refrigerator, and reclining captain’s chairs.
The Great Tang will be equipped with BYD’s new Blade Battery 2.0, enabling a CLTC driving range of up to 950 km (590 miles). Meanwhile, the AWD version is expected to have an 850 km (528 miles) range under CLTC conditions.
It will use BYD’s Disus Intelligent Body Control System with dual air suspension for a smooth, premium driving experience.
BYD will reveal prices closer to launch, but the Great Tang will likely start at above 400,000 yuan ($58,000) as a flagship model.
