Hyundai previewed two new IONIQ EV concepts, Earth and Venus, for the first time ahead of their debut in just a few days.

Hyundai hints at new IONIQ Venus and Earth EVs

After unveiling the Boulder Concept at the New York Auto Show last week, Hyundai quietly offered a sneak peek at two new IONIQ EV models.

In a series of images and videos, Hyundai previewed the Earth and Venus EV concepts, with the tagline “The new journey of IONIQ begins.” While it didn’t specify which one was which, Hyundai confirmed the two new EV concepts will be named Earth and Venus.

In the video posted on its Korean social media account, Hyundai’s caption read, “An overwhelming presence that imprints at first glance. The new journey of IONIQ begins.”

Hyundai followed it up with two images previewing the new IONIQ EVs. Although it’s just the front end, one appears to be a sporty sedan or coupe that looks similar to Kia’s Vision Meta Turismo concept car with slim LED headlights rather than the Pixel lighting that’s a signature on Hyundai’s other IONIQ models like the IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 9.

While it’s hard to tell from the teaser, the other model looks like a smaller crossover, again with slim, more aggressive-looking taillights.

In another video posted on its global social media account on Tuesday, Hyundai said, “IONIQ is coming to China.” Again, no details or specifics were revealed, but the reads “A new universe begins—one that is centered on you” suggest they will be software-defined vehicles (SDVs).

The new Earth and Venus IONIQ EVs will likely be equipped with Hyundai’s new Pleos system. The advanced end-to-end software platform manages everything from the vehicle’s operating system (OS) to the infotainment system and its hardware.

As an Android-based system, Hyundai’s Pleos Connect is like using a smartphone, similar to Tesla’s infotainment systems.

We should learn more soon. On Hyundai’s Chinese joint venture’s website, Beijing-Hyundai has a countdown for the “IONIQ Brand Launch Event” set for April 10. Check back for the full reveal.

Hyundai will unveil the IONIQ 3 at Milan Design Week later this month, its new entry-level electric hatch. Are the Earth and Venus next to join the IONIQ lineup? We’ll find out on April 10.
