The French government have increased the retirement age from 62 to 64 which has sparked widespread riots and protestors who are “extremely violent” attacked more than 100 police officers on Monday evening.
A French government Minister warned that police in Paris, Nantes and Lyon are up against “extremely violent thugs” who have one objective, to “kill police officers.”
Demonstrations have been led by unions which took place in Paris on May Day with rallies across Europe which saw more than 290 arrests following clashes between police and protestors in France.
France’s interior minister Gerald Darmanin said many of the protests in France were peaceful.
He added, that in Paris, Lyon and Nantes “police are faced with extremely violent thugs who have come with one objective, to kill police officers and attack the property of others.
“This violence must be condemned without reservation.”
Unions have called for their members to protest in an attempt to reverse Emmanuel Macron’s controversial pensions reforms.
