The Conservative Party have suffered significant losses in the local elections and Sir Keir Starmer is “on course for a majority Labour government.”

The Liberal Democrats have secured many gains and the former Tory bastion of Windsor and Maindehead putting Theresa May out of a job and the deputy Prime Minister Oliver Dowden has lost six seats in his constituency of Hertsmere.

Lib Dem leader Ed Davey said, “We are exceeding all expectations. We have delivered a hammer blow to the Conservative Party in the blue wall ahead of next year’s general election.

“The message from voters is clear: they are sick to the back teeth of Rishi Sunak and his out-of-touch Conservative government.”

Labour are celebrating landmark victories in Plymouth, Hartlepool, Worcester and Stoke-on-Trent and Sir Keir’s party have hailed the “seismic” results and they are predicted to be on course to win the next General Election.

Shabana Mahmood MP, Labour’s campaign co-ordinator, said, “These results show that we are on course for a majority Labour government.

“We have spent the whole campaign talking about Labour’s plan to tackle the Tory cost of living crisis which is the number one issue for voters.

A Labour spokesperson said, ″[That] would represent our best result since 1997.

“If Labour had an 8% lead in a general election we would win a majority government, taking into account anticipated recovery in Scotland.”

“Rishi Sunak can’t talk about it because the Tories crashed the economy and they don’t know how to fix it.

“Tonight has been a disaster for Rishi Sunak as voters punish him for the Tories’ failure.”

An ousted Tory council leader has given Rishi Sunak a blunt message and told him to “get a grip” and the Conservative Party need to “get their act together” after a shock defeat.

Medway Council in Kent was lost of Labour for the first time in 25 years and Alan Jarrett the council leader blasted the Prime Minister.

Jarrett was asked by Radio Four’s Today programme what the Tories should do to turn things around.

Jarrett said, “I would tell them to get their act together on a number of fronts, to be quite honest.

“Obviously getting a grip of the economy, but there are a number of things like being clearer about housing targets, excessive housing requirements that are unpopular locally. A really big issue here is access to GP provision.”

On Sky News, Jarrett said, “I’ve seen no sign of a Rishi bounce.

“I think he’s steadied the ship, which was desperately needed, but that’s a long, long haul back from being able to returning another Conservative government at the next election, which of course I hope we do.

“I think they’ve got to connect with the public better, I think they’ve got to decide on policies and stick to them and not flip-flop around, I think that’s really important.”

A Tory spokesperson said, “It’s always disappointing to lose hardworking local Conservative councillors.

“We expected it would be a tough night for the party. There are still many more results to come with just 25% of seats declaring overnight, there is a long way to go yet.”
