The British government has announced on Monday that the RAF will train Ukrainian pilots this summer with “piloting skills” so that they can “apply” to different types of aircraft.

The Ukrainian pilots will be placed on an adapted program to learn new skills which can be used on various types of fighter jets.

Downing Street has confirmed today that they have “no plans” to send fighter jets to Ukraine after President Volodymyr Zelensky held talks with Rishi Sunak at Chequers this morning.

During President Zelensky’s surprise visit to the UK has asked for a “jets coalition” to be sent to Ukraine so that they can “control the sky.”

Zelensky said, “I see that in the closest time, you will hear some, I think, very important decisions but we have to work a little bit more on it.”

The Prime Minister’s official spokesman said that the British government has “no plans” to send fighter jets to Ukraine.

He added that Ukraine would like F-16 multirole fighter jets saying, “”You will know the RAF don’t use those” as the UK operates F-35 and Typhoon fighter jets.

The Prime Minister’s spokesman said, “Obviously, I believe, they are in discussions with other countries who use [F-16] jets and we are working with those countries.”

Sunak did say at Chequers on Monday morning that they discussed “long term” security arrangements aimed to protect Ukraine against any possible “future Russian aggression.”

In a statement the British government said, “This summer we will commence an elementary flying phase for cohorts of Ukrainian pilots to learn basic training.

“This will adapt the programme used by UK pilots to provide Ukrainians with piloting skills they can apply a different kind of aircraft.”

This training goes “hand in hand with UK efforts to work with other countries on providing F16 jets – Ukraine‘s fighter jets of choice.”
