his is the moment a London bus disappears from view into a huge blanket of dark smoke as a huge fire raged on an east London high street.
The 25 bus is enveloped in smoke as the brave driver ploughs onwards on his route through the thick plumes of smoke spreading across Forest Gate at midday on Saturday.
Firefighters are still working to identify the cause of the fire appearing to be ignited in an Iceland supermarket under a block of flats.
The blaze was only a few roads away from a community street festival packed with families and children.
The fire is now out, the fire service confirmed, with no injuries reported.
Social media users hailed the perseverence of the determined bus driver.
One said: “Shout-out to the bus driver who has a schedule to keep, dammit.”
Another added: “Bus drivers obviously at the end of his shift, he ain’t got time for that.”
The bus driver carries on its route
/ @CrimeLdnA spokesperson for the London Fire Brigade said: “Firefighters are responding to a fire in a commercial property. Our control officers were first called at 12.03 pm and they have taken 13 calls reporting the fire.
“There are no reports of any injuries at this time and the cause of the fire is not yet known.”
Newham Council tweeted: “The fire is now out and there were no injuries. Woodgrange Road has reopened and the emergency services are leaving the scene. Thanks to our partners at London Fire Brigade #LFBNewham.”
