lthough most modern devices can withstand a quick dunk in water, even a tiny splash can cause their displays to conk out. If you’ve ever prodded a phone screen with a wet finger to find it isn’t responding, you’ll know what we mean.

To the joy of clumsy pub goers everywhere, OnePlus claims to have fixed this problem for good.

The affordable phone maker claims to have developed a feature called “Rain Water Touch”. As its name suggests, the breakthrough should allow you to use your phone’s touchscreen as normal in wet conditions.

OnePlus has been touting the breakthrough in a video shared on Chinese social media, as spotted by tech news site GizmoChina. The clip shows the upcoming OnePlus Ace 2 Pro being used alongside the iPhone 14 Pro while both are blasted with jets of water.

As you’d expect from an advert, the video demonstrates that the OnePlus can register your touch in the rain, while Apple’s pricier rival can’t. The same goes for when your fingers are wet, according to OnePlus.

To achieve those results, OnePlus reportedly used a custom screen chip and three new core touch algorithms. The 6.7-inch phone has an Amoled display and a higher peak brightness than the standard iPhone 14.

For now, the Ace 2 Pro is only confirmed for a China release on August 23, starting at a bargain £410. If it makes it to these shores, it will probably be with a new name. Or, OnePlus could just add the new displays to its future releases in the UK.

Under the hood, it packs the same chip as some of the top-tier Android phones, including the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra and OnePlus 11. There’s also a fairly standard 5,000 mAh battery, and a triple camera system on the back.

So, if your iPhone is holding you back from scrolling in the shower, the Ace 2 Pro could be the phone for you.
