olice in Pakistan are searching for the father of a 10-year-old girl thought to have been murdered.

Sara Sharif’s body was found at a property in Horsell, near Woking in Surrey, on August 10.

On Saturday, the Associated Press news agency reported that Pakistani police in the eastern province of Punjab are seeking to arrest Mr Sharif in connection with Sara’s death.

Mr Sharif’s family home is reportedly in Jhelum, Punjab, about 84 miles from the capital.

Officer Imran Ahmed said police found evidence that he had briefly returned to Jhelum, before leaving and disappearing, AP reported.

Surrey Police also revealed Mr Sharif called 999 from Islamabad.

An initial postmortem did not establish a cause of death but police said: “Sara had suffered multiple and extensive injuries, likely to have been caused over an extended period.£

Detective Mark Chapman, from Surrey Police and Sussex Police Major Crime Team, said: “While the post-mortem has not provided us with an established cause of death at this time, the fact that we now know that Sara had suffered multiple and extensive injuries over a sustained and extended period has significantly changed the nature of our investigation, and we have widened the timescale of the focus of our inquiry.”

There is no formal extradition treaty between the UK and Pakistan.

Police are working with the Crown Prosecution Service, Interpol, the National Crime Agency and the Foreign Office, and liaising with the Pakistani authorities.

Sara’s mother Olga is being supported by specialist officers and police say she and Mr Sharif have not been in contact. Mrs Sharif has said her daughter was “an amazing child” and her life “will never be the same again”.
