Labour has announced on Monday that they are planning to reinstate the 2030 new petrol car sales ban.

The shadow business secretary Jonathan Reynolds has said this would be a move to restore “certainty” for the automotive industry, should they win the next general election.

Mike Hitmar, Director at e2open. believes that EV demand is set to soar regardless of final legislation, so automotive manufacturers must work to secure supply chains now if they are to meet demand in future.

Hitmar said, “The EV train has already left the station. Automakers are demonstrating their commitment to respond to market changes and growing consumer demand and aren’t waiting for governments to ban petrol and diesel engines.

In an ever-changing industry, automotive manufacturers need strategies to quickly address fluctuations in supply and demand and give them the flexibility they need to ensure reliable inventories, manage the complexity of new vehicle requirements, and navigate ongoing global shortages.

As cars get smarter and more electrified, automotive manufacturers can mitigate the risk of stalling on the industry’s recent growth by connecting their multi-tiered supply chain with technology that brings data together in one platform to help forecast potential disruptions and prescribe appropriate, proactive action to future-proof their supply chains effectively.
