S

uella Braverman has issued a warning to demonstrators after scenes turned ugly at a pro-Palestine march in London on Saturday.

Police said the march initially began peacefully but clashes erupted in Trafalgar Square in the evening after thousands had walked from Portland Place to Whitehall.

The Met said nine officers were treated for minor injuries during the clashes which resulted in the arrests of eight people.

The offences included assault on emergency workers, setting off fireworks in a public place and public order offences.

In a post on social media platform, X, Ms Braverman said: “Thank you to police officers who worked so hard yesterday in difficult circumstances to manage tens of thousands of protesters. Numerous arrests were made as a result of pockets of disorder, violence and hate.

“To all those who saw fit to promote genocide, glorify terrorism and mock the murder of Jewish people, including women and babies – the police are coming for you.”

Seven arrests were also made during the day, four of which were for breach of section 60AA of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act, two for public order offences and one for criminal damage.

Police are also urgently viewing footage and other material of the protest and the aftermath.

A 67-year-old man arrested on Saturday will appear in court next month charged with intentionally causing racially aggravated harassment, alarm or distress.

He is alleged to have made racist remarks towards people gathered in Whitehall and a police officer.

The suspect has been bailed until he appears at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on November 2.
