Middle Eastern Airlines (MEA) has said that they have moved five out of 24 of their aircraft to Turkey “in case of an emergency” as there are fears conflict could spill into Lebanon.

The Lebanese carrier MEA said this is a precaution should Israel conduct an offensive in Lebanon in response to Hezbollah attacking targets in northern Israel.

The Lebanese militia group Hezbollah, Hamas and Israel have been engaged in conflict since 7 October which so far is the deadliest and most serious since 2006.

MEA staff are on standby in case they have to implement and emergency plan to remove further aircraft from Beirut-Rafic Hariri International Airport.

MEA sent four Airbus A321 Neo and 1 Airbus A330 aircraft to Istanbul Airport as precautionary measures as the airport could be targeted by Israel should the war escalate.

MEA confirmed that despite the move they “will not in any way” have their services impacted.
