The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk warned on Saturday of the “catastrophic consequences” of large-scale ground operations in Gaza.

He warned that there is the “potential for thousands more civilians to die” as Israel presses on with their ground, air and sea operation.

He raised the alarm of the consequences and echoed UN secretary-general Antonio Guterres comments made last week that Palestinians have been “subjected to 56 years of suffocating occupation” by Israel.

Turk said, “Given the manner in which military operations have been conducted until now, in the context of the 56-year-old occupation, I am raising alarm about the possibly catastrophic consequences of large-scale ground operations in Gaza and the potential for thousands more civilians to die.”

Guterres said he is concerned “clear violations of international humanitarian law” had been committed by Israel in Gaza following the brutal airstrikes on the territory.

The Hamas controlled Health Ministry reported on Saturday that a staggering 7,703 people have been killed in just three weeks since the Israeli Prime Minister declared “war.”

More than the 3,500 innocent children have been slain the Gazan Health Ministry confirmed on Saturday.

Gaza is around 27 miles long and about 7.5 miles wide and many have claimed that the Gaza Strip is the world’s largest concentration camp which is home to 2.3 million Palestinians.

Overnight the Israeli powerful airstrikes have “have changed the landscape” of northern Gaza as they have stepped up their operations.

Israeli fighter jets fired on 150 “underground targets in what has been described as an intense night of raids.

The civil defense service in Gaza said on Saturday the airstrikes destroyed hundreds of buildings overnight.

Mahmud Bassal, a spokesman for the Gaza Civil Defense, “Hundreds of buildings and houses were completely destroyed and thousands of other homes were damaged.”

Bassal told AFP, that the Israeli airstrikes have “changed the landscape” of northern Gaza overnight.
