Washington has confirmed that US Secret Service agents opened fire as two to three people attempted a “carjacking” of the American President’s granddaughter.

An official told the Associated Press on Monday that one of the Secret Service agents opened fire in the attempted “carjacking” of the unmarked car.

In a regional bulletin the Secret Service said that three people were seen fleeing in a red car and the DC Police Department will carry out an investigation.

The car was in the Georgetown neighbourhood in Washington DC and three individuals tried to break the window of the parked and unoccupied vehicle and there was “no threat to any protectees.”
