The NATO Secretary General has told a press conference in Brussels the importance of increasing assistance to the Ukrainian armed forces.

Jens Stoltenberg has called on all allies to increase military support for Ukraine, which comes after President Volodymyr Zelensky said that since the Israel-Hamas war deliveries of artillery shells has “decreased.”

The US are providing more support to Israel as they are stepping up their campaign in the Gaza Strip and Zelensky has accused Russia of being behind the “explosion in the Middle East.”

Zelensky said, “Our deliveries have decreased,” and he was referring specifically to the 155 millimetre shells, he added, “they really slowed down.”

He said, “It’s not like the US said we don’t give Ukraine any. No! It’s just that everyone is fighting for (stockpiles) themselves.

“This is life. I’m not saying that this is positive, but this is life, and we have to defend what’s ours.”

The NATO Secretary General said, “We need to realize that the situation on the battlefield is difficult. Russia doesn’t plan for peace, they plan for more war.

“And we are also seeing how Russia has tried to launch offensive operations around for instance, Avdiyivka, but the fact that the situation on the battlefield is more difficult than we hoped.

“That’s not an argument against support, it is an argument in favour of more support for Ukraine, because again, we cannot allow President Putin to win,”

Stoltenberg stressed the importance “that all allies continue to stand by the decisions we have made jointly at the Vilnius Summit.”

“All Heads of State and Government, all NATO Allies promised to stand by Ukraine, not only because it will be a tragedy for the Ukrainians if President Putin wins but it will be dangerous for us,” the Secretary General added.
