On Tuesday an outage hit the London Stock Exchange halting hundreds of stocks and following the “incident” they were only able to trade FTSE 100, FTSE 250 and IOB stocks.

They said that they are investigating the outage to see if it has impacted trading for hundreds of London firms.

On Tuesday morning trading stopped at 9.15am, this is the second outage to hit the London Stock Exchange in recent months.

The London Stock Exchange said, they are “undertaking immediate analysis” of the error which affected trading for over 30 minutes.

In October the exchange was hit with an outage that lasted for 80 minutes.

Speaking to City AM Fiona Cincotta, the senior markets analyst at City Index, said, this “will catch the attention of investors, people will want to have a quick answer to what was going on in order to maintain confidence.

“The quicker we can get some news on what caused the incident, the quicker the market will be able to move on.”

David Morrison, a market strategist for Trade Nation, added, “For a stock exchange, you have one job and that’s to keep your market going. And when these outages do occur, it doesn’t inspire a lot of confidence.”
