BMW is kicking off its Neue Klasse era of car design in high style with the all-new 2027 model year BMW iX3 – and demand for the new electric crossover is so high that BMW is reportedly sold out through to the end of 2026, already.

Despite the fact that customer deliveries aren’t expected to start until March, the new BMW iX3 has made up around a third of the roundel brand’s new car orders in Europe since its official debut last fall – a fact that, according to Carscoops, means much of the originally planned production output is already effectively sold.
In an effort keep iX3 wait times from stretching into 2027, AutoNews is reporting that BMW will add a second production shift at its new Debrecen plant in Hungary – the company’s first factory dedicated entirely to the production of EVs
BMW says the plant will eventually build some 150,000 cars a year, though it’s currently still ramping up – but if the success of the Neue Klasse iX3 is any indication, BMW needs to make that ramp quite a bit steeper if it’s going to keep up with demand.

BMW took a pre-production iX3 on a real-world, 1000 km adventure last year, taking the Neue Klasse crossover from Munich to Debrecen, Germany, covering more than 621 miles on a single charge if its energy-dense battery. Anecdotally, the car drives like a first-generation X3 too, which wasn’t all that far removed from my ’87 BMW E30 325 (with the 2.7 liter eta engine, that year), an all-time favorite ride.
With those two facts in mind, as well as access to Tesla’s excellent Supercharger network baked in, it’s no wonder people are eager to snap one up!
