Abbey Sales & Lettings has announced the acquisition of Chilterns, a long-established lettings agency with offices in Brandon and Thetford, Suffolk.

This marks Abbey’s ninth acquisition in the region over the past five years, further expanding its footprint across East Anglia.

The deal brings Abbey’s managed rental portfolio to approximately 1,500 units across West Suffolk, East Cambridgeshire, North Essex, and South Norfolk, cementing its position as one of the leading independent agents in the region. The business will continue to operate under its existing Shires Residential and Scott Maddison brands.

In line with Abbey’s focus on local expertise and seamless transitions, the Chilterns name and team will be retained.

Robert Love, CEO, and George Aves, MD, Abbey Sales & Lettings, issued this joint statement: “We’re thrilled to welcome the team and clients of Chilterns into the Abbey Sales & Lettings family. Both businesses share the same values of professionalism and personal service, and this acquisition allows us to strengthen our presence across West Suffolk and South Norfolk while ensuring complete continuity for landlords and tenants alike.”

Yannis Prodromou, the now former MD, Chilterns Ltd, added: “The sale to Abbey Sales & Lettings secures the long-term future of our business and clients, while keeping our staff, brand, and local reputation at the heart of operations. It’s a natural fit that will benefit everyone involved.”

Abbey Sales & Lettings will continue operating from its existing offices while incorporating Chilterns’ locations into its wider network.

The company says it remains open to further acquisition opportunities across East Anglia as it looks to strengthen its offering to sellers, buyers, landlords, and tenants in the region.
