An Air India plane as caught fire shortly after landing in Delhi and all passengers safely disembarked the aircraft.

The plane had flown from Hong Kong to Delhi’s Indira Gandhi Airport and suffered damage after the fire which involved the auxiliary power unit.

An Air India spokesperson said in a statement, “Flight AI 315, operating from Hong Kong to Delhi on 22 July 2025, experienced an auxiliary power unit (APU) fire shortly after it had landed and parked at the gate.

“The incident occurred while passengers had begun disembarking, and the APU was automatically shut down as per system design.”

The spokesperson added the aircraft suffered “some damage” and the “passengers and crew members disembarked normally and are safe.

“The aircraft has been grounded for further investigations and the regulator has been duly notified.”

Air India has been plagued with issues, in June a British Airways Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner was forced to return back to Heathrow Airport after suffering “technical issue” mid-air two days after the Air India crash in Ahmedabad.

The BA plane is the same type of plane that killed 241 passengers in Ahmedabad last week in India.

The 787-8 Dreamliner was not even an hour into its journey to Chennai and circled over Dover to dump fuel before landing safely at Heathrow Airport at 1.50pm on Sunday.

BA told the MailOnline the flight returned back to Heathrow Airport as a “standard precaution” and it was not declared as an emergency landing.

On the same day hours later another Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner flight was forced to return back to Hong Kong, Reuters reported.

After this an Air India flight bound for London from Ahmedabad has been cancelled without explanation days after the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner flight crashed.

According to CNN News a technical issue was found after a routine check which then led to the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner being grounded which is the same aircraft that crashed last week in Ahmedabad.

Since the tragic Air India crash last week several flights have either been cancelled or have been re-routed.

Later in June an Air India flight which took off from Birmingham to Delhi was forced to divert to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia after the plane received a bomb threat.

The plane safely landed at Riyadh and following a security sweep of the Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner nothing was found.

It was then revealed that an Air India flight from Delhi to Vienna suddenly fell 900ft just after take-off.

This happened a few days after the deadly Air India moments after take-off on 14 June and a full -scale investigation has been launched, The Times of India reported.

Multiple alarms were triggered in the cockpit with warning signs saying “stall alert” and “don’t sink” causing safety concerns, the Air India flight landed safely in Vienna.

The cockpit alarms warn of a dangerous loss of lift and immediate action is needed to prevent a crash.

The Indian aviation regulator, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) launched an investigation and the pilots have been grounded following an investigation.
