The Brazilian defender has been struggling with an ankle knock but hopes to be available to face Newcastle at St James’ Park.
Fellow centre-back William Saliba remains sidelined with a back injury so the fitness of Gabriel could be key for Arsenal.
“We will have to see tomorrow how he is, but yeah he could not finish the game so that was a big sign,” said Mikel Arteta on Friday. “We’ll have to see tomorrow.”
Arteta has some big selection calls to make ahead of the game with Newcastle after dropping Gabriel Martinelli and Thomas Partey for the victory over Chelsea.
Jorginho and Leandro Trossard came in for them, however they could lose their places this weekend.
Arteta may opt to bring in Partey given Newcastle’s physicality in midfield, while Martinelli is Arsenal’s top scorer this season.
