arcelona’s title celebrations were cut short on Sunday night by angry Espanyol fans storming the pitch.

The Spanish giants claimed their 27th top-flight title in impressive fashion, as two first-half goals from Robert Lewdowski set the tone for an entertaining 4-2 win at their city rivals.

Alejandro Balde, who set up Lewandowski’s first, also second before the break. Jules Kounde headed in Barca’s fourth in the 53rd minute, before Javi Puado and Joselu scored consolation goals for Espanyol.

Barcelona’s title has been on the cards for some time as they now sit 14 points ahead of second-placed Real Madrid.

At the full-time whistle, Barcelona players and staff gathered in the centre circle of the RCDE Stadium and held hands as they danced in a big ring as thousands of boos rained down on them from the home support.

The celebrations continued for a short while until a section of the home fans entered the field of play and ran towards their rivals, prompting a frantic dash from the newly crowned champions toward the dressing room.

Barca will be able to celebrate in a more accomodating atmosphere back at Camp Nou next Saturday when they host Real Sociedad.
