Beijing has warned Washington that they have crossed the “red line” for promising to send military aid to Taiwan.

Tensions in the South China Sea are soaring between the US and China over Taiwan and Beijing warned Washington there will be an “imminent storm of consequences.”

Washington has promised £63.5 million to Taiwan which has angered officials in Beijing as they see Taipei as a sovereign country belonging to China, despite their independence.

President Joe Biden has ordered the US State Department to send the aid which will “be used to strengthen Taiwan’s self-defence capabilities.”

The communist run state newspaper, the Global Times issued the warning as China has vowed to take back control of Taiwan.

The paper wrote, “China’s strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition are obvious, but China’s response to the continuous provocations by the US on the Taiwan question will not be limited to mere statements.

“With the increasing number and intensity of its intervention methods, the brewing and imminent storm of lethal consequences for Taiwan cannot be ignored.”

China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin is infuriated by Washington’s move and said that Taiwan is an “inalienable” part of China.

Wang said, “The US decision to provide weapons to China’s Taiwan region under the so-called Foreign Military Financing used for sovereign states seriously violates the one-China principle.”

The Chinese Foreign Minister said Washington’s move violates international law which will not bring peace and is sending the “wrong signals to Taiwan independence separatist forces.”

Wang added, “There is but one China in the world and Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory.

“The Taiwan question is entirely China’s internal affair that brooks no foreign interference.”
