Boris Johnson said he will support the farmers protesting over the Chancellor’s changes to inheritance tax.

The former Prime Minister said that Labour’s changes to inheritance tax on the Autumn Budget for farmers is a “really dumb” move.

National Farmers’ Union President Tom Bradshaw has said farmers across the UK are very concerned by Labour’s inheritance tax change and warned “many of them want to be militant” over the Chancellor’s decisions in the Autumn Budget.

The NFU President said there is a lot of “anger” out there among farmers and this is not going to go away quietly.

Bradshaw said he’s never seen “the weight of support, the strength of feeling and anger” over the inheritance tax changes.

Farms worth more than £1 million (which is a vast majority) will be billed with 20% inheritance tax, this could lead to £3 million in taxes left to be paid by those who inherit the farm, which could lead to them being sold for a loss, this also will affect many as most have no capital.

The former Prime Minister told GB News, “It’s a really, really dumb thing to do. You know, we are struggling.

“We are struggling to keep people on land and make sure that farmers are incentivised to hand over their business to their descendants.

“My own family were in the same position and I can tell you, it’s an absolute nightmare.”

“I haven’t been invited to this protest, I’m obviously not in favour of breaking the law.

“If this protest involves squirting slurry language at Labour politicians, obviously I won’t support it.

“If I am around and I happen to see a tractor, I’m not excluding the possibility that I would strongly sympathise with the driver of that tractor.

“Because I think it’s mad. It’s absolutely mad. I don’t know why they’ve done it.”

The former Top Gear host Jeremy Clackson has blasted the Chancellor Rachel Reeves accusing her of “shafting” farmers with the inheritance tax change at the Budget.

The Amazon Prime Clarkson Farm owner, Jeremy Clackson wrote on X, “Farmers. I know that you have been shafted today. But please don’t despair.

“Just look after yourselves for five short years and this shower will be gone,” meaning he is hoping Labour will be voted out.

Kirstie Allsopp who is the Location, Location, Location presenter blasted the Chancellor accusing her of having “f****d” farmers.

She said, “Rachel Reeves had f****d all farmers, she has destroyed their ability to pass farms on to their children, and broken the future of all our great estates, it is an appalling decision which shows the government has ZERO understanding of what matters to rural voters.
