Another heatwave is set to hit Europe next week and Brits are either cancelling holidays in Europe or they are changing their plans.

There is pressure hovering over eastern Mediterranean which will give Europe some respite, but a second heatwave could happen next week.

A leading climate scientist Erika Coppola, of the Abdus Salam International Centre, told Sky News, “Fortunately, it looks like it’s going to be short and stop by Thursday, or Friday at the most. But there does appear to be something happening again next week, around Tuesday.

“We will have two different episodes, one after the other – and this is already the second one this month.”

Europe is experiencing extreme weather with temperatures above 40C (104F) and in the Greek Island of Sardinia the mercury is expected to reach between 46C and 47C.

Spain’s met office recorded temperatures of 47.1C in Villarrobledo and on Monday in Andujar the mercury hit44.9C.

Italy’s meteorological office, the Servizio Meteorlogico warned that the capital could be as high as 42C to 43C and other forecasters are predicting that temperatures could reach 46C on Tuesday in Europe.

Sky News weather producer Joanna Robinson said, “Some places have struggled to drop below 30C at night, giving people no relief to the heat.

“This week, temperatures may climb even higher before extending eastwards, with a peak expected between Tuesday and Thursday.

“Highs close to 47 or 48C are possible, which would threaten the European record.

“Models suggest the heat will ease off a little at the end the week, but temperatures will remain well above average for some time yet.”
