The government is urging households across the UK to stock up on tinned food, water, medicine and food for pets.

MPs are now stepping up their advice for Brits to be more resilient and to plan for the possibility of war breaking out in the UK.

The former Defence Minister and MP Tobias Ellwood, is also strongly urging households across the UK stockpile on certain items warning that an “attack on the UK is likely.”

Ellwood said Britain must “wake up and start preparing” as the likelihood of a “grey zone attack” will most likely affect the UK’s energy and food supplies and infrastructure.

The new security strategy states, “Some adversaries are laying the foundations for future conflict, positioning themselves to move quickly to cause major disruption to our energy and or supply chains, to deter us from standing up to their aggression.

“For the first time in many years, we have to actively prepare for the possibility of the UK homeland coming under direct threat, potentially in a wartime scenario.

The government’s website UK Prepare is telling households to stock up on batteries, bottled water, tinned food and stock up on “non-perishable food.”

The government’s website says, “Non-perishable food that doesn’t need cooking, such as ready-to-eat tinned meat, fruit or vegetables (and a tin opener).

“As with water, how much you need will vary based on your own circumstances. Don’t forget food for pets.”

People require 2.5 to 3 litres of water a day, 10 litres a day per person will provide for basic cooking and washing.

The UK government advice reads, “Emergencies happen every day in the UK and across the world.

“They can be caused by severe weather or other natural hazards, by deliberate actions, or as a result of accidents or infrastructure failure.

“They can be events that happen quickly and are over in a few hours, or they can develop and continue over the course of several days, months, or sometimes even longer.”

They recommending buying items regularly each time you shop instead of bulk buying, they added, “Rather than buying all the items at once, you could just add to your emergency kit when you are able and build it up over time.

Ellwood said that households have to now prepare for “real world scenarios we must seriously consider,” such as internet outages, power cuts and swarm drone attacks.

Writing in PoliticsHome, the former defence secretary said, “What if your phone buzzed with a national emergency alert warning of a swarm drone attack enroute to your city – where would you go? How would you respond?

“These aren’t scenes from a dystopian thriller – they’re real-world scenarios we must now seriously consider.

“Britain is now facing a surge in grey-zone warfare – deniable, covert attacks aimed at weakening our economy, undermining our infrastructure, and sowing confusion and panic. Russia’s so-called shadow fleet is already mapping the UK’s undersea cable networks – those vital arteries that deliver our electricity, gas and data. Autonomous underwater vehicles are criss-crossing the seabed, gathering intelligence.

“This isn’t speculation – Russia’s ambassador to the UK recently acknowledged that sensors had been placed in British waters, after several devices washed ashore. The Royal Navy is responding, ramping up its ability to detect threats and developing its own unmanned underwater vehicles.

“But this fight doesn’t begin and end with the military.”
