China’s leading EV maker will try its hand in a promising new field. As electric car sales continue surging to record highs, BYD plans to take on the world of humanoid robots. To kick things off, BYD announced a new recruitment program to attract top talent from around the globe.
BYD is recruiting for its humanoid robot team
BYD is taking the global auto market by storm. In November, the Chinese auto giant sold a record 506,804 new-energy vehicles (EVs and PHEVs), crossing the 500K mark for the second straight month.
According to a recent social media post, BYD plans to enter a new field: humanoid robots. The company announced that it’s looking for master’s and doctoral graduates from global universities to join its Embodied Intelligence Research Team.
BYD launched its Embodied Intelligence Research Team in 2022 to develop custom robotics systems to help accelerate its growing network.
The team has already developed several robots, including Process, Smart Mobile, and Humanoid Systems. BYD wants to expand its reach into robotics with a new global recruitment program.
Are you interested in joining BYD’s robotics team? To be eligible, Chinese students must complete their degrees between September 2024 and August 2025. Meanwhile, overseas students must graduate between July 2024 and December 2025.
The global recruitment program is part of BYD’s broader plans to expand AI and smart technology. BYD recently announced it would invest 100 billion yuan ($13.7 billion) to advance new intelligent tech and accelerate EV development.
BYD said the commitment will “ensure BYD remains at the forefront of technological advancement” as it looks to gain an edge in the global auto market.
In the meantime, BYD already has robots helping out at its manufacturing plants. Leading Chinese robotics company UBTECH unveiled its Walker S1 humanoid robot. Walker S1 is considered one of the most advanced trained humanoid robots in auto manufacturing. It already has over 500 pre-orders.
UBTECH already has partnerships with several domestic automakers, including Geely, FAW-Volkswagen, and FAW-AUDI.
