Canada Pension Plan Investment Board said it will receive a 12% position in the combined Viterra and Bunge and $800 million in cash in the agribusiness merger between the two companies announced earlier on Tuesday. CPP Investments has been a 40% owner of Viterra since 2016. “Together, the agribusinesses have highly complementary capabilities and footprints, and together will be able to better serve customers from an enhanced global network and increased diversification across geographies, seasonal cycles and crops,” CPP Investments said in a statement. Glencore and British Columbia Investment Management Corporation jointly own the other 60% of Viterra and will be shareholders of Bunge after the deal closes.
