A man was taken to hospital after his car collided with the front of an estate agency in Bishop Auckland, County Durham.
The incident occurred outside Hunters on Newgate Street, where a silver vehicle was seen embedded in the building’s entrance. Police quickly cordoned off the area to keep the public at a safe distance.
Emergency services confirmed the driver suffered a medical episode at the wheel and was treated at the scene before being transported to hospital for further care.
A structural engineer was called to assess the integrity of the building, but a staff member at the agency confirmed there was no structural damage, and the office remained open for business.
A spokesperson from Durham Constabulary told the press: “Police were called just after 5.30pm yesterday (September 28) following a collision in which a car collided with an estate agents on Newgate Street, in Bishop Auckland.
“The driver is believed to have had a medical episode at the wheel and was assessed by a first responder at the scene.
“The building will now be checked by a structural engineer.”
A spokesperson for North East Ambulance Service added: “We were called to a one-vehicle road traffic incident on Newgate Street, Bishop Auckland, shortly before 5.30pm on September 28.
“We dispatched a rapid response paramedic and a double-crewed ambulance. One patient was taken to Darlington Memorial Hospital.”
