Sky reporter and former driver Martin Brundle had been sharing man hugs with Sam Ryder and dodged Formula One crew with Florence Pugh before he tried to approach Delevingne on the track surrounded by her entourage.
He is seen explaining to her representatives that the deal had been made for everyone on the grid to be available for an interview.
Despite being told no he approaches the supermodel, asking her directly: “Can we have a quick chat? Sky F1?”
Cara shakes her head and says no repeatedly after looking at her representative.
But Brundle ploughs on, “The deal is everyone has to talk on the grid.”
A smiling Delevingne then claims she can’t hear anything and apologises.
After being rejected, he sarcastically quipped: “OK, alright well…. I’m sure it would’ve been extremely interesting.”
After the bizarre altercation, the star took some flak on social media for not respecting the “privilege” of being on the grid.
But one supporter wrote on Twitter: “At this point, Martin Brundle is just doing it to manufacture the moment for the controversy of it all.
“You can clearly see the PR rep tell him “no” and shake his head when he goes up towards Cara Delevingne. He had an out and he chose not to take it to make a statement.”
The Only Murders In The Building star responded to the comment online telling her 9million followers: “I was told to say no so I did.
“Thank you for seeing both sides xxx”
She added: “Anyway, I had so much fun today and was so happy to be there no matter what anyone else may think x”
She watched on as Max Verstappen delivered another crushing performance to win the British Grand Prix with Lando Norris holding off Lewis Hamilton in a brilliant fight for second place.
