T

he father of a child who died at a holiday park in Cornwall has reportedly paid tribute to his “very cute and clever” son.

The incident happened at Atlantic Reach holiday park in Newquay on Monday.

Atlantic Reach posted on Facebook on Tuesday saying: “We are absolutely heartbroken that a child sadly passed away here at our resort yesterday.

“We do not feel it is appropriate to comment further at this stage, except to say our thoughts are with the family at this devastating time.

“As such we respectfully ask that all those affected are given time and space at this distressing time.”

Police were informed by the ambulance service that a five-year-old boy had drowned in a swimming pool within Atlantic Reach Holiday Park on Monday afternoon, Devon and Cornwall Police said in a statement reported by Sky News.

Robin, along with his mum and dad, Ferzane and Cemal Caliskan, and their six-month-old baby had reportedly arrived at the resort just hours earlier and planned to camp for a week there.

Mr Caliskan said his son “loved hugs” and was “very cute and clever”, Plymouth Live reports.

He added: “I want every parent to see this story, this can’t happen again. We are suffering pain and we don’t want any parents to have a similar feeling. We just wanted to share this to stop it happening again, to any other parents and any other children.”

Devon and Cornwall Police added that the boy is from the Plymouth area and his death is not being treated as suspicious.

The statement adds: “Officers from Devon and Cornwall Police along with representatives from Cornwall Council Health and Safety are undertaking inquiries in relation to the circumstances surrounding this death.”

Atlantic Reach had posted on Facebook on Monday to say it had closed the Leisure Club “for the remainder of the evening”, before later adding that the gym and classes would be open as normal on Tuesday, but the indoor and outdoor pools would be “closed until further notice”.
