Following the US President’s warning to Vladimir Putin on Monday he will impose “very severe tariffs” on Russia if no Ukraine peace deal is found within 50 days, China has said they are “increasing” their role with Moscow, The Telegraph reported.
The Chinese President Xi Jinping told the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Beijing on Tuesday mutual trust between Russia and China has “deepened.”
Jinping has called for Moscow and Beijing to “strengthen mutual support on multilateral forums,” and said their partnership is a “model for a new type of international relations.”

Trump said on Monday, “I speak to Putin a lot about getting this done, and then missiles are launched into Kyiv or some other city.
The Kremlin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Tuesday that Trump’s warning is “quite serious,” and they will take time to evaluate the statement.
Lavrov said, “We’d like to see what’s behind that statement by President Trump.
“Now it’s 50 days, it used to be 24 hours, we’ve heard 100 days before. We’ve been through it already. We want to see what the US actually wants.”
Lavrov also said he understands there is “an enormous amount of pressure” coming towards the US from the EU and NATO.
The Russian Foreign Minister added, “There’s a saying we have: Don’t dig a hole for someone else or you’ll fall into it.
“The sanctions being prepared in Brussels by the EU and this sanctions funnel that already exists, they want to put the US into it as well.”
Ukraine’s sanctions commissioner, Vladyslav Vlasiuk has said that Beijing is a major supplier of dual use components which has been found in drones.
Earlier this month Vlasiuk said that “China’s role is increasing” and that Beijing is currently replicating US technologies, the Kyiv Independent reported.
The South China Morning Post reported earlier this month that the Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi told the European Union’s top official Kaja Kallas they “cannot afford for Russia to lose the war.”
This comes as China is worried that Russia losing the war will allow Washington to move their focus on to Beijing.
