Strutt & Parker strengthens National Country House Department

Strutt & Parker has appointed South West agent Sarah Brown to its National Country House department, joining the firm as a director following almost two decades at Knight Frank.

Advising clients on the sale of prime and high-value country houses, Brown brings extensive experience across Dorset, Somerset, Wiltshire, Devon and Cornwall.

In her new role, she will work closely with Strutt & Parker’s South West offices and agents, including in Cornwall, Exeter, South Hams and Salisbury, alongside the firm’s wider National Country House Department, which operates across the UK from the Scottish Highlands to the South Coast.

Brown’s appointment builds on the department’s established presence in the South West, which has been further consolidated in recent years under the leadership of Oliver Custance Baker.

Baker said: “Sarah is an outstanding country house agent with deep regional knowledge and an admirable approach to advising clients. She is a widely respected agent, and her appointment significantly strengthens our presence in the region.”

Brown added: “The South West is a market I know extremely well, having grown up here and worked across the region for many years. It is home to an unrivalled range of inspiring properties and landscapes, with every area having its own distinct character.

“Strutt & Parker’s National Country House department has a strong reputation for its thoughtful advice and excellent team, and I’m looking forward to working with colleagues from across the business.”

British Land CEO Simon Carter to step down

Simon Carter

British Land chief executive Simon Carter is to leave the company to take up a similar role at warehouse developer and investor P3 Logistics Parks.

Carter has served as chief executive for five years and first joined British Land in 2004. He has a 12-month notice period, during which the company will begin the process of appointing his successor.

Carter said: “British Land has been a huge part of my professional life, and it has been a privilege to work for such a fantastic business.

“I’d like to thank William, the Board and the Executive Committee for their unwavering support during my time as CEO, and all my colleagues for the outstanding execution of our strategy over the past five years.

“The contrarian calls we made post-pandemic have positioned British Land for long-term success. There is never a perfect time to move on, but I will be leaving the business with market-leading positions in London campuses and retail parks – both of which are benefitting from strong rental growth in supply-constrained markets.

“I’m immensely proud to have played a part in British Land’s story and wish the business nothing but success in the future.”

James Maddock joins Knight Frank as partner

James Maddock

Knight Frank has announced the appointment of industry veteran James Maddock as partner in its Global Occupier Strategy & Solutions team, effective 19 January.

At Knight Frank, Maddock, who has more than 35 years’ experience in corporate real estate and occupier advisory, will be based in London where he will work closely alongside Tim Armstrong, Global Head of Occupier Strategy & Solutions, and senior regional leadership, including Philipp Ueberschaer, Head of Occupier Strategy & Solutions – EMEA, and Richard Proctor, Head of Occupier Strategy & Solutions – UK, joining the Global Occupier Board.

Maddock joins from Cushman & Wakefield, where he spent his entire career, beginning at DTZ in 1990 and later joining the European Board following the firm’s 2015 merger. Most recently, he served as EMEA Head of Occupier Services, where he was responsible for building and scaling the EMEA Occupier Services platform. He also previously served as Chair of CoreNet UK, the principal occupier association, for a two-year term.

Maddock said: “The firm’s [Knight Frank] partnership culture and commitment to collaboration strongly resonate with me. I look forward to working across the UK, Europe and global platform to enhance client experience, deliver meaningful outcomes, and support the continued growth of the business in an increasingly complex environment.”

William Beardmore-Gray, Senior Partner and Group Chair at Knight Frank, commented: “James is a highly respected industry leader with an unparalleled network and depth of occupier expertise. His appointment underscores our long-term commitment to building a market-leading Global Occupier platform, which we see as a critical growth engine as occupier requirements become more complex, global and strategically driven.”

Tim Armstrong, global head of Occupier Strategy & Solutions at Knight Frank, added: “As occupier requirements become increasingly sophisticated, this is the ideal moment to strengthen our global leadership team. James brings 35 years of outstanding experience and an exceptional track record, and his arrival further enhances our ability to deliver innovative and integrated solutions for clients.”
