RICS appoints 10 individuals to the SRB

The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) has announced the appointment of members to its permanent Standards and Regulation Board (SRB).

RICS has appointed 10 individuals to the SRB, with almost 300 candidates applying for the five RICS member and five independent members roles on the Board.

Following a careful and rigorous process led by Nigel Clarke (independent Chair of SRB), together with the support and expertise of Cindy Butts (independent recruitment specialist) and Clare Johnson MBE, FRICS (Deputy Head of Profession at the Valuation Office Agency) as the Appointment Panel, the final appointed individuals will help us build on our existing strong foundations and ensure independent regulation is fit for purpose and can meet the needs of the future.

These appointments follow recent appointments to the Professional Standards Steering Group and the pilot Consumer Working Group. With these groups reporting to the SRB, it is important to recognise that the diversity, breadth and depth of intellect, expertise and experience available to the Board is impressive. This collective experience positively informs and drives our regulatory agenda in the public interest, instilling confidence in the credibility of what and how we regulate.

The new SRB members are as follows:

Keith Thomas FRICS
Olga Turner Baker MRICS
Sara Ensor MRICS
David Fogarty FRICS
Andrew Reynolds FRICS
Yo-Hann Tan
Lynne Livesey
Sukhvinder Kaur-Stubbs
Neil Stevenson
Jonathan Lurie

The new SRB members commenced their appointments on 13 May 2024, with an in-depth induction held on 22 and 23 May.

Nigel Clarke, chair of RICS’ Standards and Regulation Board (SRB), said: “I am confident our new SRB will help inform and drive forward confidence in the quality of RICS’ regulation and strengthen trust in the profession.

“This is a busy time for RICS and the built environment, and the SRB is undertaking critical work on professional standards and regulation for our global profession. These excellent appointments arrive at the perfect moment, and with the successful inductions complete, we are already at work.”

Chris Alder, senior executive at RICS, commented: “Establishing and maintaining world leading standards and regulatory practices is a central tenet of RICS’ global role, and the SRB lies at the heart of strategy and decision-making in this area.”

Heaton & Partners appoints Amy Woods

Amy Woods

Independent buying agent Heaton & Partners has appointed Amy Woods to build its presence in the southwest of England, with a focus on the prime city markets of Bristol and Bath, as well as the rural regions of Dorset, Somerset and Devon.

Woods has experience in the selling world, having started her career at Aylesford International, where she worked on international sales covering countries from Barbados to Switzerland to France and Spain. Most recently she spent eight years as a partner in Knight Frank’s international team focussing predominantly on the Italian market. In this role she advised buyers on the process of overseas purchases, making her move from estate agent to buying agent a natural progression.

Having grown up in the West Country, Woods retuned to the region after a twelve-year stint in London, and lives on the border of Dorset and Somerset with her husband and young family.

Woods commented: “It’s a really exciting time to be joining Heaton & Partners as the company continues to expand its team and I look forward to building on their existing success. Having grown up in the South West region, I have a good in-depth knowledge of the area and all it has to offer to incoming clients and I am thrilled to be able to help in securing them the finest homes across this beautiful region.”

Edward Heaton, founder and managing partner of Heaton & Partners, added: “We have been looking for some time to find someone living on the ground in Dorset and Somerset who would be a great fit for our team. We have been lucky enough to secure Amy upon her return to the West Country having spent a period of time in London. She has hit the ground running and is already proving to be a tremendous addition to our business.”

Eddisons boosts Newcastle team with senior appointment

Dan Nicholson

Eddisons has appointed valuation specialist Dan Nicholson to its Newcastle team as an associate director.

Nicholson is returning to his native North East after spending over five years in London working for South East-based property firm Glenny.

With almost 15 years’ property industry experience, Nicholson specialises in land and property valuation across a range of sectors for secured lending, accounting and purchase or disposals.

Nicholson commented: “It’s good to be back in the north and I’m excited to reconnect with familiar faces in the industry up here.

“I’m looking forward to the challenge of using the skills and experience I’ve honed in London in my new role with Eddisons to make a genuine impact in the North East region that I know so well.”

Anthony Spencer, managing partner of Eddisons, which is headquartered in Leeds, said: “Valuation is a fast-growing area of our business. We are focused on growing the team in the North East and have further hires planned over the coming months. With more than 100 people in our valuation team nationally, demand continues to increase from our clients for outstanding valuation advice across the commercial and residential sectors.”

He added: “We are really pleased to welcome Dan to Eddisons family and it is great to see the appointment of yet another highly experienced team member as we continue to grow.”
