As the cost-of-living crisis intensifies across the United Kingdom, more than half of workers find themselves having to forgo their traditional Christmas breaks, as financial constraints make taking time off unfeasible for the majority.
In a survey conducted by the UK’s leading independent job board, CV-Library, 55% of those facing the harsh reality of working through the festive season cited the pressing need to maintain financial stability in the wake of rising living costs. They simply can’t afford to take the time off.
70.3% of the 2,250 surveyed revealed that their employer doesn’t offer any incentive to work over the Christmas period, and just over half (52.5%) admitted they really don’t like working during this time.
For the people who are able to take the time off, the main reason was to spend time with loved ones and to take a break after a tough year.
