Wheeled excavators are making a comeback in the equipment market, delivering a winning combination of versatility and road-friendly mobility that offers municipal construction fleets a lot of bang for the buck. With its latest all-electric model in this category, DEVELON aims to capitalize on this growing construction trend.

Formerly known as Doosan Construction Equipment, construction equipment manufacturer DEVELON launched a new range of electric wheeled excavators at Technische Kontakt Dagen (TKD), a major equipment show in the Netherlands. And, while specs are light at the moment, we do know a little bit about the new machines.

Developed in collaboration with ETEC Zero Emission, a Dutch specialist in electric drive systems for mobile machinery, the new DEVELON DX160WE-7 (based on the Doosan DX160W-7 first launched in 2023) is expected to perform comparably to the company’s diesel-powered DL06V, Stage V ICE model, which has a 17,000 kg operating weight, 0.59 m³ bucket capacity, and over 8 tons of maximum traction force.

The electric DEVELON will be available with a number of different battery configurations that will enable fleet buyers to tailor the machine’s battery capacity to their work needs. An “extended range pack” will also be available, allowing the DX to operate a full day on a single charge.

DEVELON says its new line of electric excavators will include the DX160WE-7 wheeled excavator shown, above, and two new crawler excavators based on the DX225LC-7 platform that are expected to follow shortly. The move is intended to allow contractors and construction firms to bid on projects in noise- and pollution-sensitive areas in European low-emission cities like Barcelona, London, Stockholm, and others.

Charged notes that, while Develon was formerly known as Doosan Infracore and Bobcat was part of the Doosan Group, the two companies are now managed as separate entities under HD Hyundai ownership.

As demand for low-emission solutions rises throughout Europe and SE Asia, the latest electric excavators from DEVELON and parent company Hyundai provide an ideal balance between eco-friendly operation and real-world job site requirements – especially when fitted with articulating buckets and other versatile implements.
