Comings & Goings – London Wallet

This week: fake promises, furious children, and finally admitting I’m not indestructible.

Monday – Overpromised & Under-Delivered

Digital Sparks: brilliant at content for clients, rubbish at doing our own. Obviously. Had a cracking call with GlueDog about clever tools, then another with a supplier who’s had nine months to “change the game” for Fine & Country. Spoiler: the only game they changed was into hide-and-seek with results. So bad they paused our fees. London really is the poison chalice of digital marketing – corporates with deep pockets wasting leads!

Tuesday – WiEA in da House

Women in Estate Agency’s first full content day. We covered training, charter, conference, 4,500-strong Facebook group… the lot. Meanwhile, I realised I haven’t cycled in six weeks. Used to clock 2.5 hours cardio a day. Now I just drive around complaining about cyclists. Peak middle age. I need a new challenge. Suggestions that don’t involve Lycra welcome.

Wednesday – Tears & Tweaks

Dropped my nine-year-old at her first residential trip. No tears. She basically shoved me back in the car. Wrapped up a failed restaurant client who wanted all the content without paying. Bless him. Imagine trying to blag an estate agent. Sparks website nearly finished, boxing injuries 90% healed. Do I regret fighting basically one-armed? Of course not. Stubbornness is the only thing I’ve got a black belt in.

Thursday – Compliance is Cool

Prepped the National Advisory Council agenda, filmed with Amy Shields from Smart Compliance (turns out compliance can be cool, who knew?), and polished my Moneypenny presentation. Meanwhile, Fine & Country quietly chalked up three more exchanges. Cash flow is seriously good for the soul.

Friday – Fine & Country Deep Dive

Full-day NAC meeting: member standards, marketing strategy, growth. Top end of the market’s tough, but business is still being done and fees are still healthy. We all moan, but honestly, it could be worse, we could be selling NFTs.

Saturday – Funnels Over Fun

Up at 5am firing emails before the kids stirred, then gym, then Evelyn’s dance class. Spent the afternoon rebuilding a client’s content strategy: six months in, great niche, but not talking to enough people. So we widened the funnel. Not glamorous, but sometimes “boring” work is the what’s needed to move the needle.

Sunday – They Don’t Know They’re Born

Bit of gym, bit of admin, started flogging one of our cars. Kids complain they’re cramped in the back of a Mercedes people-carrier. When I was their age, I rattled around in the back of my dad’s van with no seatbelts. Entertainment was trying not to fall out the back.” They don’t know they’re born.
