DLA Piper has advised and supported listed business, THG which owns several e-commerce and wellness and beauty brands including MyProtein and Lookfantastic on the acquisition of City A.M, the London based newspaper that recently entered administration.

Originally launched in 2006, City A.M. has established itself as a leading daily financial and business newspaper, available in the City of London. The newspaper also carries general interest content including sport and lifestyle features.

Working with the appointed administrators, BDO LLP, a cross-practice DLA Piper team comprised of Finance, Projects and Restructuring, Intellectual Property and Technology, Employment, Data Protection and Tax advised THG on the acquisition of the newspaper’s business, along with a number of its assets, including its employees, all of whom will be retained following the completion of the transaction.

The cross-practice DLA Piper team was led by UK Head of Restructuring Rob Russell. He was supported by Tony Potts (legal director, Restructuring), Aimee Harper (associate, Restructuring), Huw Cookson (senior associate, Intellectual Property and Technology), Emma Mills (partner, Employment), Lorlor Osborn (associate, Employment), James Clark (partner, Data Protection) and Stephen Jones (legal director, Tax).

Rob Russell, Manchester-based partner in DLA Piper’s Finance, Projects and Restructuring team and Head of UK Restructuring, said, “As the City of London’s leading financial newspaper, City A.M. has become a trusted name for insights and analysis.

“We are pleased to have been able to support this transaction which is protecting jobs and allowing the newspaper to continue its reports on stories which are crucial to the success of business across the Capital.”
